Shane Waslaski is responsible for leading the company to achieve the vision of transforming healthcare with operational intelligence that improves care, enhances the human experience, and increases efficiency. Shane brings a proven leadership background in complex operations across the healthcare, manufacturing, infrastructure, and transportation industries, and he has served in various executive roles throughout his career, including President, CEO, COO, and Senior Vice President. Most recently, Shane was President of Varistar, where he led a manufacturing and infrastructure business portfolio with 1,600 employees and revenues of more than $500M. Varistar is a management and holding subsidiary of Otter Tail Corporation (NASDAQ: OTTR), where he also served as a corporate officer and Senior Vice President.
Prior to these roles, he held operational leadership positions in healthcare delivery organizations and consulted for a wide range of healthcare customers, including hospitals, clinics, and insurers.
James Burgum co-founded Arthur Ventures in 2007 and serves as Managing Partner where he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the firm. Prior to founding Arthur Ventures, James was a founding team-member of the North Dakota Trade Office, a public-private partnership that assists North Dakota companies in connecting with international business partners and customers. James began his career working for North Dakota Governor John Hoeven where he focused on economic development initiatives. Programs James was involved in helping launch, such as Operation: Intern, Young Professional Networks, and the North Dakota Trade Office continue to be key initiatives of the state of North Dakota. James holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from North Dakota State University and currently serves on the board of directors of Arthur Companies Inc. as well as Partner companies Agronomic Technology, Catalyze, Intelligent InSites, and Loyalty Builders.
With more than 30 years of hands-on medical experience as an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Gruby brought with him a wealth of real-world healthcare experience as the company was launched. Drawing from his experiences of implementing several new technologies to improve the processes and information access in his own practice, Dr. Gruby is a recognized expert in streamlining healthcare processes through the use of mobile wireless technologies and advanced workflow software applications. At Intelligent InSites, Dr. Gruby serves as Chief Medical Officer Emeritus and has chaired the Board of Directors, providing market knowledge and direction to the company related to the healthcare space, providing input and assistance to the InSites product team, and assisting in setting the company’s strategy and goals.
Dr. Gruby is currently a member of the North Dakota Medical Association – it’s Sixth District and it’s Legislative Commission. He is also a member of ND HIMSS, CHI-St. Alexius Medical Center’s Investigational Review Board, Public Health Emergency Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps, International Arthroscopy Association, the Alamo Orthopaedic Society, North Dakota Orthopaedic Society, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He also serves as President of the Bismarck Catholic Physicians Guild, is a Fellow for the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, and is Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of North Dakota. Dr. Gruby received his M.D. from the University of Texas.
Chuck Hall is National Group President of Nashville, Tennessee-based HCA, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. He is responsible for HCA’s operations in 12 states, which currently include 81 hospitals. Hall joined HCA in 1987 as Chief Operating Officer of Sam Houston Memorial Hospital in Houston, Texas, and was later promoted to Chief Executive Officer. Prior to his current role, Hall was President of several of HCA’s Florida divisions, including North Florida from April 2003 until September 2006, East Florida Division from June 1998 to March 2003, the South Florida Division from February 1996 to May 1998 and the Southwest Florida Division from August 1994 to February 1996.
Hall currently serves on the Board of Directors for the HCA Hope Fund, an employee-run nonprofit that helps HCA Employees and their immediate families who are affected by financial hardship. Hall earned a master’s degree in business administration in 1979, and a Bachelor of Science in finance in 1975, both from Florida State University. Hall has served on the boards of the Florida Hospital Association and the Florida Hospital Association Political Action Committee, and as secretary of the Florida League of Health Systems.
Major General Terry Scherling is the President and CEO of TENICA and Associates, LLC, a privately-held enterprise providing government services and consulting solutions in the area of national defense, homeland and cyber security to government and commercial clients. Prior to establishing TENICA, she served as a special assistant to the Chief, National Guard Bureau, providing plans, programs and resources for more than 460,000 personnel across 54 states and territories supporting worldwide operations with an annual budget in excess of $23B. Scherling has served on the Reserve Forces Policy Board, the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO), the National Guard Joint Advisory Council, the Air National Guard Strategic Planning Steering Team, Support Group Commanders Council, the Logistics Strategic Planning Group, the United States Air Force Supply Executive Council, and the Army National Guard Logistics Executive Advisory Group. She is currently serving on a military advisory board for FLIR Systems, a publically-held company and a global leader in infrared cameras, night vision and thermal imaging systems used for security and force protection by industrial, commercial and government activities in more than 60 countries.
Scherling has a BS in Physical Education from North Dakota State University and an MS in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University. She is a Seminar XXI Fellow of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds an Honorary Doctorate from North Dakota State University.
Joe Sowell is Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer of Nashville, Tennessee-based HCA, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare services. His responsibilities include all development functions and transactions related to HCA’s investment in or acquisition or divestiture of any business, including hospitals, outpatient centers, and physician practices. Sowell is also responsible for real estate development. Sowell joined HCA December 1, 2009. Prior to joining HCA, Sowell was a partner at Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis where he practiced in the areas of healthcare law, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity financing, tax law and general corporate law and co-managed the firm’s Corporate and Commercial Transactions practice. Sowell has led numerous large health care transactions.Sowell is an active supporter of numerous Nashville charitable and nonprofit organizations, including St. Luke’s Community House and Room In the Inn – Campus for Human Development.
Sowell earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama in 1978 and his law degree from the University of Alabama in 1981. He also has a master of laws degree, which he earned from the University of Florida in 1982. Mr. Sowell is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Health Law Committee of the Nashville Bar Association. He and his wife Joanne reside in Nashville and have two children.
