Sanford Announces Innovative, Real-Time Operational Intelligence to Improve Patient Care and Staff Workflow
Fargo, ND – February 20, 2014 – Sanford Health has selected Fargo-based Intelligent InSites to develop a real-time, enterprise-wide solution to improve operational efficiency, quality and patient experience. The solution supports Sanford’s objectives to decrease operational costs, reduce delays in patient care and increase clinical efficiencies and staffing productivity. InSites will deliver real-time, in-the-moment information to help staff at all steps of the patient care experience.
Sanford’s implementation of Intelligent InSites’ software takes in real-time location data and interprets it into helpful intelligence in the form of tasks and notifications, visualized locations of people and equipment on map views, and in-depth analytics and reporting showing utilization, duration of equipment or people in various statuses, etc. This data will provide Sanford with unprecedented visibility, analytics, and intelligence into its operational processes. Initial uses include asset management, temperature monitoring, ambulatory workflow, and operating room workflow. Future use cases may include emergency department workflow, hand hygiene monitoring, and inpatient workflows.
Sanford and Intelligent InSites plan to seamlessly integrate this solution into day-to-day activities to provide staff with the right information, at the right time, and on the right device. A few examples include: personalized mobile apps that help caregivers prioritize rounds and track progress against department goals like time at bedside or call light responsiveness; and automatically-updated view boards that show hospital patients their care team, what to expect for the day and even when the lunch cart arrives on the floor – all with the goal of improving staff and patient experiences while increasing operational efficiency.
In the clinic setting, the InSites solution is helping Sanford deliver “patient-centered care” where patients bypass the waiting room and go to assigned exam rooms where nurses, physicians, and lab technicians come to them versus them making their way around to different service locations. This technology will shift the entire flow of the patient experience in the clinic. In the hospital, the initial focus will be on asset management, temperature monitoring and patient flow. Reports will help Sanford improve patient care, reduce costs, and standardize processes for a consistent and repeatable patient care experience.
For the majority of Sanford staff, this technology is “hands-free,” meaning it doesn’t require entering information on a keyboard. Location and duration data are acquired and alerts are sent automatically. Targeted role-based training will be provided to help staff quickly and effectively prepare and take action with minimal interruptions.
The InSites software is designed to span multiple hospitals across large healthcare systems, aggregating and processing data to provide real-time operational intelligence at the department level and hospital level. At the healthcare system level, the InSites solution will help Sanford employees impact operational processes and patient care in real time. The enterprise-wide capabilities of Intelligent InSites’ software will allow Sanford to monitor, benchmark, and improve system-wide operational performance and process improvement initiatives, resulting in increased healthcare efficiency and improved patient care.
“This is all about improving the experience not only for our patients, but also our own employees. As a leader in healthcare for both quality of our clinical care and our use of technology to transform and improve our operations and patient care, Intelligent InSites was the obvious partner for Sanford Health,” says Nate White, Chief Operating Officer for Sanford Health.
Installation is being conducted over the next several months at the Fargo and Sioux Falls Medical Centers. Sanford’s new Moorhead clinic will go live with the system when opened in March. Others will begin in late spring of this year. Additional locations added in later phases will include Thief River Falls, Bismarck, Bemidji, Worthington, Dickinson, and Aberdeen.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Sanford Health and leveraging our operational intelligence platform to make significant improvements in the seven flows of healthcare, including the flows of patients, clinicians, medications, supplies, equipment, information, and process engineering,” said Doug Burgum, Chairman and CEO of Intelligent InSites. “Having a strong strategic partnership with another visionary organization that shares our goal of driving high-impact innovations in healthcare delivery is great. Having them as neighbors is a bonus, not only for our organizations, but for our communities.”
In addition, Sanford and Intelligent InSites will partner on future innovative, co-developed solutions that will integrate with Intelligent InSites platform and support both organization’s long-term visions.
